The natural alternative to polyurethane. Osmo’s Polyx®-Oil is a traditional Hardwax Oil. Polyx®-Oil is recommended for finishing interior timber flooring, timber furniture, timber beams, sarking, paneling and childrens toys, cots and bassinets. Suitable for most timbers, including pine, macrocarpa, jarrah, oak, beech, some eucalypts and rimu and plywood.
As durable as polyurethane, and far easier to repair when scratched or worn. Easy to apply, with 2 thin coats. Sanding in between coats is generally not necessary.
Depending on the project, application can be by brush, microfibre roller, microfibre fleece or lint free cloth. Osmo’s 220mm floor brush with the system telescopic handle is the Manufacturer’s preferred applicator for floors. If using a roller, it should be microfibre with a nap of no more than 5mm. Care should be taken to limit the amount of oil held in the roller, otherwise over application can result.
For timber furniture, paneling, architraves, doors, window sills etc, application can be by roller or paint brush. A lint free cloth such as Osmo’s Easy Pad may also be used. In this case, more than 2 coats will be required to achieve the same finish as a brush or roller.
Oily and resinous timbers such as Matai, Totara, Kwila, and Spotted Gum require a different finishing process. The use of normal Polyx®-Oil, on these timbers may cause drying issues. Full details on treating these timbers can be downloaded from the information sheet on this page.
Polyx®-Oil finishes are easy to maintain with a pH neutral detergent such as Osmo’s Wash and Care for damp mopping. For rejuvenation when looking faded, Osmo’s Liquid Wax Cleaner can be buffed into the finish to lift the sheen level.
