Wood Meets Colour
Wood, Durable and Stable
It takes 100 years for a tree to grow into solid quality. Osmo has gathered experience in working with wood during its 140 years of history. The correct handling, processing and long-term protection of wood as a natural construction material has always been the utmost priority.
Colour That Protects
Only a suitable wood finish can meet the needs of wood so that it retains its natural beauty and durability for a long time. To achieve exactly these goals, Osmo as a pioneer in the field self-developed its micro-porous, natural oil and wax-based finishes over 40 years ago.
Natural Ingredients
The wood remains microporous and continues to absorb and release water without damage. The surface can breathe and becomes anti-static, which attracts less dust and dirt.
OVER 140 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
Who is OSMO?
sawmill in Germany over 100 years ago
The company expanded into producing a wide range of finished timber products including flooring, bench tops, decking, garden fencing, and kit homes. These all required a durable finish and the owners were dissatisfied with cracking and peeling lacquers even back in the 1960’s.
This motive was the drive to create a better finishing system and led to extensive research and development, and then the opening of the Osmo Color facility. Osmo is the only timber product manufacturer which completes its product range with surface finishes that are developed and produced in house. This is why the Osmo finishes are a perfect match for timber.
Osmo offers a natural and environmentally friendly alternative to wood finishing. The products are based on rapidly renewable, natural vegetable oils that penetrate deeply into the wood, keeping it elastic and healthy, whilst preventing it from drying and becoming brittle.
The wood is allowed to breathe which means it is naturally protected, moisture can evaporate whilst the surface is very water resistant, water tightly beads on the surface which can be simply wiped off – and for exterior wood the rain will evaporate naturally, meaning little or no maintenance is required.
